The Sonos Sub (Gen 4) adds deep, room-filling bass to a Sonos setup. Inside, two force-cancelling woofers face each other, so their movement cancels out cabinet buzz and rattle. You get the low-end punch of explosions, film scores and bass-heavy music without the vibrations that can spoil a quieter scene. It connects wirelessly over your home Wi-Fi, so the only cable it needs is for power.

It is designed to pair with a Sonos soundbar or speaker rather than play on its own. Once paired, it takes over the lowest frequencies, which leaves your main speaker free to deliver clearer dialogue and vocals. Through your connected Sonos speaker, you can stream from your phone or other Apple devices using AirPlay 2. Trueplay tuning in the Sonos app adjusts the sound to suit the shape and furnishings of your room. You can also control volume and settings from the app.

The Gen 4 model has updated processing and memory compared with earlier versions. Its slim, black cabinet can stand upright or lie flat, so it can sit against a wall or slide under a sofa where it stays out of sight.
