Privacy policy
Last updated 24 October 2026
This policy explains what information ApplianceRentals.co.uk ("we", "us") collects when you use this website, why, who we share it with and your rights. We keep it short because we collect very little: you do not need an account, and we never ask for your name, email address, phone number or payment details.
Who we are
ApplianceRentals.co.uk is operated by Sawtry Media Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 05080337), whose registered office is at Eco Innovation Centre, Peterscourt, City Road, Peterborough, PE1 1SA. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy and are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration number ZA269839.
You can contact us about privacy using our contact form.
What we collect and why
Your postcode
If you enter a postcode, it is saved in a cookie on your own device so that every page can show the products that can be delivered to you. We do not keep a record of the full postcode on our servers. See our cookie policy for details.
When you click through to a rental company
When you choose a product and follow the link to a rental company, we record:
- the date and time, the product and the page you clicked from;
- the page that referred you to our site, if your browser provides it;
- your browser's user agent (the type of browser and device);
- the first part of your postcode (the district, for example CO3), if you have entered one;
- a one-way code made from your IP address and the date. This lets us tell genuine visits from automated traffic without storing your IP address, and it changes every day.
We use this to measure which products and pages are useful, to reconcile the commission rental companies pay us, and to detect automated or fraudulent clicks.
Server logs
Like most websites, our web server automatically records technical information about each request, including your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser details. We use these logs to keep the site secure and working, and we keep them for a limited period before they are deleted.
If you contact us
If you send us a message through our contact form or by email, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply. We use them only to deal with your enquiry, and messages sent through the form are deleted automatically after 12 months. To prevent misuse of the form we also record your browser type and a one-way code made from your IP address and the date.
Our legal basis
We process this information because it is necessary for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the website and in measuring the referrals we make to rental companies. Saving your postcode is necessary to provide the feature you asked for. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
Who we share information with
- Rental companies. When you follow a link to a rental company, the link may include a click reference, the product, the category and the first part of your postcode, so the company can credit the referral to us and show what is available in your area. We never send them your name or contact details. Once you are on their website, their own privacy policy applies, and any information you give them (for example when you apply to rent) is collected by them, not us.
- Service providers. Our hosting provider (Team Blue Internet Services UK Limited) stores our website and data. Fonts and icons are delivered by Google Fonts and cdnjs (Cloudflare), which means your browser connects to their servers and they receive your IP address.
- Where the law requires it, for example to respond to a valid request from the police or a court.
We do not sell your information.
Transfers outside the UK
Some service providers, such as Google and Cloudflare, may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they are required to protect it with safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep information
- Click records: 24 months, so we can reconcile commission and report on how the site is used.
- Server logs: 30 days.
- Cookies on your device: see our cookie policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for access to your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to data portability. Because we do not collect names or contact details, we may not be able to identify information relating to you, but we will help where we can. To make a request, use our contact form.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns first.
Children
This website is intended for adults. Rental agreements are made with rental companies, which only rent to people aged 18 or over.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
