The Sonos Five is a large wireless speaker built for rich, room-filling stereo sound, here in a black finish. Inside are six drivers, three tweeters and three mid-woofers, each powered by its own amplifier. That means crisp vocals, detailed highs and deep, controlled bass whether you're playing a quiet album over dinner or turning things up for a get-together.

It connects over your home Wi-Fi, so music streams straight from services such as Spotify through the Sonos app. Apple AirPlay 2 lets iPhone and iPad users send audio directly from their device. Trueplay tuning adjusts the sound to suit your room's size and furnishings, so it sounds balanced wherever it sits. There's also a line-in socket for connecting a turntable or other audio source, and an Ethernet port if you prefer a wired connection.

Placed horizontally, the Five plays in stereo on its own. Stand it upright and you can pair it with a second Five for wider stereo separation. It also works with other Sonos speakers, so you can play music in several rooms at once or group them together. Note that it has no built-in microphone, so there's no voice assistant control.
